We do not have regular meetings over the summer. Our 2026/7 season of weekly meetings at the bowls pavilion will start on Thursday 15th October, 7-9pm. Before that, we will be meeting in the park on Wednesday 12th August to view the partial solar eclipse (about 90% of the Sun will be obscured by the Moon), and we will be holding an open day on Sunday 20th September 11am to 4pm in the classroom behind the Stables Cafe.
Eclipse day, Wednesday 12th August. Between 6.13pm and 8.04pm, the Moon will pass directly between the Earth and the Sun, obscuring over 90% of the Sun at maximum (7.10pm). During this time our members will be in Heaton Park near the Stables and Hall to explain to you what is happening and to help you to look at the eclipse safely.
We will have eclipse glasses for you to view the eclipse safely and we will also have specially adapted binoculars and telescopes for you to look through.
Weather permitting, this will be the best solar eclipse since 2015 and there won't be another one this good until 2090!
