Welcome
Heaton Park Astronomy Group meetings are held in the Bowls Pavilion between 7pm and 9pm, normally every Thursday during the winter months. See Next meeting page for further information.
We are a community group, and suitable for all ages, although under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. It is free to attend, but we welcome voluntary donations for refreshments which helps to cover the cost of room hire.
We're a very friendly, informal group. Newcomers are always made welcome, whether complete beginners or those who already have some knowledge of astronomy. It's our aim to provide something for everyone.
We have talks and discussions on various aspects of astronomy, and when the sky is clear we go outside so we can use our telescopes and binoculars to observe whatever planets, nebulae and other interesting celestial objects are currently on view. We typically have at least half a dozen telescopes set up which we encourage anyone without a telescope to have a look through.
There is disabled access to the meeting room, viewing area and toilets. Refreshments are available.
If you would like more information, please contact us - or just turn up, we'd love to see you.
Our site in Heaton Park enjoys reasonably good night sky viewing conditions for a suburban location.
